}  Spring 2014 Mid-Term Exam Guide and       Test Review

      Time: The test will posted on eLearning at 11:59       pm
      Place: Online - Take Home Essay Exam
      Exam return: Please return the completed mid           term exam to your instructor via the eLearning             System before the end of the day on Wednesday, March 19, 2013 by 11:59 pm
}  It is important that you read chapters 1 - 7 in             your textbook
There will be one essay question from each one         of the first 7 chapters in your textbook.  You will      need to answer 5 of the 7 essay questions
}  Essay questions
            When reading the chapters 1 through 7 be looking    for broad themes in local economic development      that would lend themselves to essay questions
     Such as:
    Do you think that global warming will shape the future of     economic development at the local level in the     United States? (Pages 24-25)
    What are some of the current fads in local economic development? (Page 92-94)
     How do you go about understanding a local economy’s        strengths and weaknesses (Pages 143-155)

An example of an essay question:
1. If you were the mayor of your home town would        expend most of your efforts in attracting new   businesses or in retaining and expanding existing              businesses in your community to strengthen the              city’s economic base?
The style of the questions will be very similar to the        journal questions that you have getting in the    first seven weeks of this Spring 2014 semester
The each answer on the midterm essay exam must         be 300 to 500 words in length

You can use only this book for your citations

Planning Local Economic Development: Theory and Practice by Edward J. Blakely and Nancey Green Leigh, 4th and 5th Editions are acceptable
