THEOLOGY

Each paper will receive a score based on the following:
1.      Content.  This is to be in your own words.  This is not an opinion paper (unless otherwise noted in paper instructions handout):
2.      Grammar
3.      Adherence to these guidelines.
4.      Excessive direct quotes (more than 2) or a block quote (quoting a large portion of the reading material) will result in a significantly lower grade for that paper.
5.      Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in an F for the paper and reported according to University of St Thomas catalog.
Paper Topics:

1.      Paper 2 is to be written on one of the following books.  The student is to advise the professor as to their choice of book by March 3.  If several students choose the same text, a student may be required to read another text.  If a student wants to use a text other than one of these 6, they must get prior approval from the professor.  The text must be brought to class for approval.

Paper 2 guidelines:
1.      The purpose of this paper is two-fold:
a.       To help the student to “think critically” about a specific subject
b.      To enlighten the student in more depth on a specific theological subject.
2.      This paper should be in a standard essay format.  This means the paper should have:
a.      A clear and distinct thesis statement
b.      Body of paper arguing the thesis statement
c.       Conclusion
3.      Each of the books suggested has an overriding theme to it.  You should read the book carefully and discern what this overriding theme is.  Your thesis statement should reflect this and then the body of your paper should argue for this theme. There may even be multiple themes in the book and you should be able to discover what these themes are and touch on each of them. This paper should be akin to a book report, but more academically inclined.
4.      No other sources are necessary.
5.      ADD PERSONAL OPINION AT THE END OF THE PAPER!!!
