The ways in which Voltaire’s Candide illustrates most of the characteristic features, attitudes and goals of this cultural movement

Voltaire was probably the most typical and representative figure of the entire Enlightenment. Write a 3-page essay (750 word minimum) describing the ways in which Voltaire’s Candide illustrates most of the characteristic features, attitudes and goals of this cultural movement.
Conclude by discussing what you perceive as the overall “message” or “moral” of Candide. In this regard, consider how Voltaire’s Candide could be understood to challenge the very principles of the Enlightenment, for which it is supposed to represent.

Be sure to cite several examples, including quotations drawn from the book to support your argument. (Place page numbers in parentheses immediately after the quotation).
