Note: Students will
turn in this assignment twice: first as a draft (Week 8 Assignment) and then as
a final paper (Week 10 Assignment). Students will submit first draft of the
assignment and then submit the final draft after receiving feedback from the
professor and making the recommended changes. They will be graded separately
for each submission of the assignment.
You
have already developed a thesis statement and developed an outline in which you
explored three (3) main points relevant to your topic of interest. Now you will
develop a draft paper in which you explore your main points in detail.
Write
a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:
- Introduce your paper with your
previously crafted thesis statement.
- Describe how your issue fits
into the field of sociology. Determine the sociological theories and
terminology from the text that apply to your social issue. (Note:
Link back to the main points described in the outline.)
-
- Discuss what is known and
unknown about your particular issue. (Note: Link back to the main
points described in the outline.)
- Discuss the value of
sociological research into your issue. Determine whether or not
there are (or would be) practical implications of sociological
inquiry. (Note: Link back to the main points described in the
outline.)
- Use three (3) credible sources
and APA citations where appropriate.
Previous
thesis statement: Immigration is good for the United States. The United
States has been a nation of immigrants from the time it was founded and as such
can accurately be referred to as a nation of immigrants (Foner, & Fredrickson, 2005). This
Paper will examine and disprove the common misconceptions about immigrants by
those who want the United States borders closed to immigrants especially those
from Latin America and Asia.
- Be typed, double spaced, using
Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides;
citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Include
a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name,
the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and
the reference page are not included in the required assignment page
length.
