The title of the article I have chosen to write about it is “Vincent van Gogh's extraordinary afterlife; Before his death in 1890, van Gogh was considered an utter failure in both his life and his work. Today, he's one of the most famous artists in the world. Is this turnaround just a matter of chance? Hardly, writes ModrisEksteins.” This article is written by ModrisEksteins, and was published by Informat, a divison of Postmedia Network Inc. The date of its publication was May 19, 2012. ProQuest  Newsstandis the database that is used to find this article. The keyword that I used to find this article was Vincent Van Gogh.
The article is about Van Goghs’s miserable life. Vincent used to have a bad reputation as person and was not very popular artist back then in the 19th century, but all of that changed after in the next century. Van Gogh became one of the most artists in the 20th century and his portrait of DrGachetwas sold for $82.5 million at auction in New York. In addition, Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam had been a popular tourist destination. Sadly, all of this happens 100 years after his death. On the other hand, the reason that made him popular that in 20th century people paid attention to emotion and his troubled life had touched their feelings. Van Gogh had deposited a lot of his family members during his life and he hurt himself too. He took advantage from his young brother which he was very close to, and he use to hurt women. Although he was educated, I do not think he had mental problems. He used to have a room in an asylum and told the priest he hear voices in his head. Moreover, we know what he did to his ears and how he used to fight a lot with his roommate Gauguin. It is clearly shown he is troubled and had emotional problems in all of his work. Van Gogh’s paintings were a reflection to his emotions and his deeper feelings. His popularity became back after the Second World War and during the Cold War in 20th century.
Vincent Van Gogh is my favorite artist that is why I chose this article. The way Vincent Van Gogh paints had caught my attention since the begging of this semester. The way he uses expressive lines and the thickly implied oil pain which is known as Impasto that is used in all of his paintings. In addition, I liked how he had a good relationship between him and his brother. The emotions that are hidden deeply in him and how he reflected these deep emotions into his paintings is the main reason why I always will choose Vincent as my favorite artist.
