The Forum assignment this week is to discuss how the Supreme Court determines which cases to adjudicate, which cases not to adjudicate, and why.

The Forum assignment addresses the fifth course objective, specifically, the operation of the Supreme Court as part of the Judicial Branch of the government.

 
The Forum assignment this week is to discuss how the Supreme Court determines which cases to adjudicate, which cases not to adjudicate, and why.
 
Select one of the all-time Supreme Court cases from 2000 on, and explain why the Supreme Court accepted it for adjudication (not what the case is about).
 
The cases to choose from include:
 
10. Gonzalez v. Raich
12. Kelo v. City of New London
16. Hiibel v. Nevada
25. Lawrence v. Texas

Post by 11:55 pm (ET) on Friday; include citations or URLs for your work to receive full credit; and, provide substantive replies to the posts of at least 2 of your classmates by 11:55 pm (ET) on Sunday.



Assignment responses should be no less than 300 words and no more than about 500 words, while student replies should be no less than 150 words and no more than about 300 words.
