Sociology in the News Assignment

Sociology is present in our everyday lives. The purpose of this assignment is to become more aware of the applications of sociology to everyday life via the news.

Assignment Content Instructions:

Write a ½- 1‐page paper (typed, double‐spaced, size 12 times new roman font, 1 inch margins) that discusses the newspaper article that you chose. You must include the following information:

·         The topic in sociology that the article relates to (if a general topic just put chapter number and title)

·         A summary of the article

·         A brief discussion that includes how the article relates specifically to sociology and/or something we discussed in class

·         A works cited page that uses MLA format and includes the article information (if it is an online article you must include a link to where the article was found).

You MUST attach the newspaper article to your paper. If you do not attach the newspaper article, your assignment will NOT be accepted.

Grading:

The essay must be ½ page to 1 page and should be written in MLA format.  For specific details of MLA, please feel free to access the OWL Purdue Online Writing Lab at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/(Suggested Resource section.) You will be graded on following MLA format, your grammar, how well the essay is organized, and including the information stated above.Additionally, remember that you assignment will not be accepted if you do not attach the newspaper article.

Other  Instructions:

In the top left-hand corner of the first page include your name, then after your name include the faculty name, course number and section and date due.
