Increase in Globalization But Still Problems Helping Out Other States

Increase in Globalization But Still Problems Helping Out Other States
Since the late 20th century, the world has become more of a smaller place. With an increase of globalization, there is also limitation on the interactions of players in international politics. In a globalized world, actions by states to interact with other states is only by choice because there is no higher power than sovereign states. Most of the time obligations are made by treaties or for allies. However, sometimes there are glimpses of positive interactions between players in the international political game.
One of the darker days of political shortfall is the Rwanda events leading up to the Rwanda Genocide crisis. The case study talks about how little the international community was interested in resolving the crisis. Mainly because of the core-periphery relation. Rwanda is not a value place according to the western states that has majority of power. To them, Rwanda has no economic value that would require intervention from western powers. Only reason French Government was involved in the area because it had the largest military forces in the area and it also has a connection with Rwanda because it used to be a French colony before it gained its independence. Rwanda population is another reason French government shown heavy interest in Rwanda and find a resolution to end the genocide.

However, there are some incidences where international political community is cooperating with other states. In the case study the United Nations is discussed. There are a few problems as majority of countries are part of the UN. One issue that comes up in the UN is not a world dominating government because all members agree there is no higher government ruler than sovereign states. The UN is made up of two councils which is the General Assembly and the Security Council. In the General Assembly, every state member is equal no matter how powerful or influential they are. The Security Council five permanent members are being questioned because more and more states are becoming “intermediate powers to major powers” as some of the permanent members. The world is experiencing a multi polar system which increases the chances of a more unified cooperation between states. For example, the UN is tasked to settle issues between states where there can be peacekeeping arraignments agreed from both sides. They use the example of India and Pakistan. The UN uses neutral peacekeeping force from other members that help maintain peace until a solution comes out. One aspect of diplomacy that the UN can use.Other common diplomacy is through NGOs which some are part of the UN that help areas in crisis. For example, when a resolution is passed for use of aid money can be used to relief and improve life because of the cooperation of states. The sub-NGO of the UN is the largest buyer of condoms to be spread in third world countries as a way to fight AIDS epidemic, A relief program for improving lives by installing wells in order to increase food production, access to clean water and reduce exposure to illnesses where people have no access to a doctor for medicine.

Even though there are times that International community being selfish or selfless can affect international politics. Sometimes lead by financial reasons or by being pressured by other members of the community to act. Not all crisis’ are going to attract a global attention to solve the problem like what happened with Rwandabut the international community tries its best to do what is believed to be right.
