Course Project Instructions

Course Project Instructions

is an individualized project. In fact, the majority of its content is comprised of your own work for this benchmark assignment: the Course Project. Keep in mind that this project is research-based, which means that you will need to search various educational materials (i.e. course textbook, scholarly and academic journals or magazines, etc.) to find current information concerning your chosen topic. However, you will not submit this information in the form of a research paper; instead, the information that you find will then be applied to your project idea using the form of communication most suited to the nature of your topic.
Example: If your topic were Substitute Folders, you would conduct research to find related information (i.e. needs of substitutes, tips for planning for substitutes, etc.). After you collect and review relevant information, you could create a Substitute Folder that incorporates the findings of your research.

Project Ideas
The purpose of the Course Project is to create a resource that would be useful to an educator (i.e. teacher, administrator, etc.). Therefore, you may choose a topic anywhere within the broad field of education as the basis of your idea, but keep in mind that a lesson plan or unit plan is not acceptable as a Project. Your idea will determine the format in which your Project will be delivered (i.e. a paper, a presentation, documents for a notebook, etc.). It may also determine how much research you will need to incorporate into the development of your Project assignments. A minimum of 3 sources is required.
Possible Project ideas include:
  • A professional development plan for other teachers
  • A seating arrangement study
  • A project showing diversity
These are just ideas to help guide you. You may choose a different topic.

Your Project will be evaluated based on the Summative Assessment (attached in the Course Project Instructions); therefore, you should familiarize yourself with the assessment and refer to it when completing each part of the Project. The components of your Project-related assignments are listed and explained.
