This research project involves the in-depth analysis of one artwork. In your research, you are to find out as much information as you can about this artwork, about the artist, and about the social and historical context in which this particular artwork was produced. This research will then be crafted into 1100 word essay of typed and double-spaced 12pt font.
Your paper will contain 4 parts: 1) the artist, the title, the category of artwork, medium, date, and the dimensions of the artwork, followed by detailed formal description of the artwork which includes its dominant design principles, geometry, color scheme and important visual elements; 2) an analysis of the title, the subject and the meaning of the artwork within a historical, social, and/or psychological context; 3) information about the artist, his or her background, the school or style of the artist, historical contemporaries and the important artistic issues of the times, and 4) an explanation of why you chose this artwork to analyze amongst all the many other artworks in the museum. Discuss what you feel is beautiful within this artwork.
